ContentsGrapevine: News and Notes about WEC Members
Program: Installation of New Officers Please help welcome the new Board team: and say thank you to the outgoing
Board team: Photos from May's Luncheon:
President’s Message
I can’t believe the year has gone by so quickly. It seems like only a short time ago I was preparing for my first luncheon meeting. I have enjoyed my term as WEC President and look forward to helping Ronnie wherever and whenever she needs me. I am pleased with what we accomplished this year. We ventured into new territory by moving to the Tower Club and had three socials that were for FUN instead of fundraising. (Our previous fundraisers have been so successful that our WEW and FX programs are funded for the foreseeable future.) We have three exciting, talented Future Executives and two Women Empowering Women participants. (Look below for Pat and Kim’s updates on how they’re doing.) Ten new members joined us. I look forward to getting to know each of them as they become more involved. We designated one Cannon Circle a quarter to showcase a member’s business. From the buzz I overheard, these were some of the most popular. GEM lunches and Book Club are entering their fourth year. We have such a variety of things to offer –– truly something for everyone. Being President is a team effort, and I would like to thank the members of my Board for their patience, collective sense of humor and hard work. Until you’ve sat on the Board you have no idea how much time and caring goes into making this wonderful club work. Thank you to everyone for believing I was up to the challenge of leading this elite group. Your confidence in me helped me rise to the occasion. It was a privilege serving as your President. Please support Ronnie as you did me, and we will have an awesome year! Sincerely, |

Members, we need your involvement to make our Mentorship Program a success!
Thank you in advance to everyone who has already volunteered! We want
to know what “gift” you have that you are willing to share
with an FX (future executive). Your “gift” may be anything
in life – something work related, socially or technically oriented,
etc. Would you spend some time with an FX at our WEC functions? Lunch,
GEM, Book Club, Cannon Circle, etc.? Ronnie Karlin![]()
On Friday, May 20th, 2005, the Aventura City Commission welcomed Montgomery Mortgage Capital Corporation – Licensed Mortgage Bankers (NY, NJ, FL) as a new business in the City Of Excellence. The Grand Opening Celebration occurred over lunch at Ivy Aventura, across the street from the offices of Montgomery Mortgage Capital Corporation in the Harbour Centre.
Vice Mayor of the City, Zev Auerback acknowledged Evie Hernandez and Cindy Gonzalez entrepreneurial spirit in starting their business adventure in the city of Aventura, which translated from Spanish means Adventure. These young Latina entrepreneurs speak English, Spanish and French.
Cindy is finishing her Doctorate Degree and therefore calls herself “The Financing Doctor. She specializes in diagnosing your financing options and providing financial fitness reports that best suit your personal financing needs. Evie is finishing an MBA and calls herself “Your 2nd Opinion Financing Consultant” because she knows there are a lot of shoppers in Florida, and she will review a competitor’s Good Faith Estimate to ensure that consumers are getting the best loan program at the best price. Evie believes “consumers are entitled to a second opinion, even if they have already been pre-qualified for a mortgage.”
Evie and the firm’s other consultants educate their clients by conducting
FREE Real Estate Financing seminars throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties
and through their very educational website: www.RealEstateFinancingConsultants.com.
They are also devoted to maintaining an active profile within the community
and supports events and causes such as Aventura’s first American
Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Patricia A. McCarthy writes
I made it through my first year at FAU. My grades are in and I received an “A” in Museum and Gallery Practices an “A-“ in Painting and I passed German Language II (that was a close one). My success in part is due to the WEW program and its dedication to help me succeed. I can’t tell you how thankful I am to be part of your mentoring program.
I hope everyone is having a great summer!!!
Two of my paintings have been accepted at the Broward Art Guild's new exhibit called CONTROVERSY. The opening was Friday, May 20;
The pieces selected by juried competition titled "Third of May, 2005" and "Not Coming Home" explore the angst of our war. This is my first exhibit outside of the school environment.
For information and directions call: Broward Art Guild, 530 NE 13 Street,

Kim Stiles writes:
I graduated May 6th with a Master's degree in Communications! It's been
a long, arduous journey and I could not have done it without the encouragement
and support of all the members of WEC. I am so thankful for all the club
has done in helping me become a strong, confident woman. I have been
asked to join the Ph.D program in Comparative Studies and may, but I
need a break first!
I have had several job offers already and look forward to teaching at the
university level in addition to starting a training business (leadership,
team building, cultural diversity etc.).
On a more personal note, I got married on April 2. It was a spur of the
moment decision (I had 9 days to prepare) because my Dad who had severe
medical problems decided to come to Florida anyway! My new husband's name
is Pete Pascia. He has a dock and seawall repair business. I look forward
to seeing you at the June meeting.
WEC
Book Club:In 2002, members of WEC who had a common desire for reading and discussions formed the WEC Book Club. The book for discussion is select by the majority and the gathering is held in a member’s home (munchies are always welcome). The meeting schedule varies according to the book and other circumstances. All members are welcome to participate.
Next Book Club July 13, 2005 6:30 PM
The Weight of Water by Anita Shreve is our upcoming book selection. Please join us. Bring something for Pot Luck Supper; I'll supply the wine.
Cannon
Circle For new members, Cannon Circles are hosted at members’ homes and provide a more informal atmosphere for us to get to know each other. Please contact Leigh Nickel at 954-423-0006 if you would like to host a Cannon Circle.
GEM “Greet Eat Meet” ProgramFormed in November 2002, members of WEC who choose to get together for an informal meeting are selected at random in small groups to greet, eat and meet. A Lead person is selected to set a time and place for breakfast, lunch, dinner or what ever. This is a great opportunity to get to know each other on a more personal level. It is great fun!
The GEM Team has been formed to assist with this program. The committee members are Joann Alderman, Marshia Durham, Christy Lambertus, Gayle Metcalf, and Joni Rosenthal.
Diane
Walsh and Emily Rushin have been corresponding by e-mail.. Emily
writes that Diane’s story is worth placing in the newsletter -
it's so close to Patty Camp's! Maybe it's catching!
Diane divorced her husband John Walsh last year, which affected her job
to some extent as they worked together at Walsh Financial Consultants
for many years. Diane bought an apartment at River Reach and was re-aligning
her life, when on a whim she contacted a high school boyfriend while
she was visiting grandchildren in Texas. And cupid attacked them with
love arrows! They married and she reports: "God was certainly looking
out for me when he sent Richard into my life again. I am having the time
of my life! I sure miss all of you so very much and will be back to visit
you soon." Her e-mail address is

Chris
Guld, your wandering Webmaster. I left Florida in April 2004 and have
been living, working, and traveling with my husband, Jim in our motorhome
ever
since. It is our dream come true. We will be visiting Florida this summer — I know, that's when most people leave! But, it's the best diving then,
and that's what we miss most. I hope to arrive in time
to attend the June 28 retreat, and we expect to be in town for a couple
months. If you know any groups that would like a speaker on the RV lifestyle
- let me know! Meanwhile, you can visit me online at jimandchris.com.![]()
The News TeamA TNT(dynamite) team has been formed to assist with gathering information for the monthly newsletter. The team consists of reporters Patti Archibaud and Amy (Arnold) Van Gent and photographer Joni Rosenthal.
Attention Members! If you haven’t had your picture taken for the directory and the newsletter, please see Joni at the luncheon meeting. She takes great pictures with her little tiny camera.

Firms that include women on their senior management teams show greater
improvement in corporate performance. 62% of those that included women
on their senior management team saw their market share grow, compared with
only 39% of companies with no women on the teams. But, even the highest-paid
female corporate executive still earns only 68% of the salary paid to her
male counterpart.
