From the President

I am very sorry that a trip to London prevented my attendance at our November luncheon. I heard from the many members who attended that they greatly enjoyed hearing our speaker Mayor Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco who is Mayor of Tamarac. Her talk was very uplifting and conveyed to members that we can overcome our fears by finding the right people to help us. Sounds like the perfect advertisement for membership of WEC.

In December we will hold our Holiday Lunch at the Lauderdale Yacht Club on Friday December 15th. We will not have a guest speaker at this luncheon. Instead we will have a jazz duo, saxophone and guitar musical entertainment arranged by Pam Dearden and the Gold Coast Jazz Society. We will also have a devilishly difficult Holiday Quiz with prizes. This is the only lunch during the year when wine will be served so please plan your afternoon accordingly! Also a reminder that the guest fee for the Holiday lunch is $35.00 per person instead of the usual $25.00

It is our WEC tradition to have a Holiday Gift Exchange. If you are a member please remember to bring a wrapped gift. If you have invited a guest or guests please ask them also to bring a gift for the exchange. The suggested value for your gift is in the $15 to $20 range.

In addition to the exchange of gifts between members and guests your Board strongly encourages you to bring items for donation to Family Central and to PACE. As you know Barbara Weinstein of Family Central and Kathleen Ryan of PACE are both WEC members. Please bring unwrapped children’s toys for Family Central and school supplies, cosmetics and toiletries and other fun items for young women for PACE. Melissa Rapkin has included a reminder list below of the kind of items that you might bring for PACE.

Also in December we are pleased to announce that Betsy Grant (Never Underestimate the Power of a Flower) will be hosting our Holiday Cannon Circle. Details of that event are below.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our December events. Thanks, Vivien

Bobbie StanleyBobbie Stanley writes:
I have become a named partner in my law firm. The name was changed to Brinkley, Morgan, Solomon, Tatum, Stanley, Lunny & Crosby. The first woman to be in the name in its existence which is over thirty years.
 Congratulations Bobbie!

Dr. DonnaDr.Donna Goldstein reports that she chaired the Silent Auction  portion of Leadership Broward’s Profiles in Leadership 25th Annual  Gala on Nov.17  at the Signature Grand. It was quite a spectacular event and she had  a fabulous committee which donated both  treasures and time, including our own Joni Rosenthal and  Deb McLaughlin. Dr.Vanessa Koutalidis’s office also donated a massage. All told, their committee raised nearly $10,000 (full event figures are not completed yet, but look to be over $100,000 for a great cause!)

Emily Rushin's paintingIf you visit Bonnet House during the holidays (and you should if you never have!), Emily Rushin has seven watercolors in the Welcome Center, where you buy tickets.  Bonnet House was built in the 1920s and is located just south of Sunrise Blvd., and just east of the ocean.  It is historic, artistic, and altogether charming.

Geri TrodickGeri at American Trophy announces:
Our Newest Product!! We are doing color sublimation. Photos can be put on ceramic tiles, and they can be framed or used as coasters, trivets, mouse pads or cutting boards. This can make a great Christmas gift. Also the color sublimation looks good on name badges. Check mine out at the next meeting.

Leigh NickelLeigh Nickel writes:
I am changing the name of my business to Asset Advisors as my practice has gravitated towards asset management for individual investors. Dee Moustakas helped me through the process, Pat McCarthy, our WEW Recipient, designed my logo, and Jenny Kelly, Owner of Ritter's Printing is printing  all of my stationery. What would I do without WEC!!!

Cannon Circle

November Cannon Circle:

Deb McLaughlin writes: It was soooo much fun.  Yummy food, great champagne, the most perfectly beautiful night out in the moonlit garden, and great chat!  I think there were about 20 people there - 3 tables of at least 5 or 6. The curry was delicious - QUITE!
