From the President

The October lunch was extremely well attended with many members as well as guests. We enjoyed listening to Diana Gonzales of NBC6/WTVJ speak about the development of her career in broadcast journalism. Diana spoke about how she began her career in 1978 right after graduating from the University of Florida. She answered a question describing the pinnacle of her career working as a correspondent for CBS national news based in Miami for 3 years. However, she told us that she really preferred and enjoyed her current job which might not be considered so prestigious but she finds more fulfilling.

We were entertained in great style by Dr Donna Goldstein and her Business Showcase. Dr Donna explained to the group that she can provide entertainers for almost any type of event large or small, formal or informal. She brought two entertainers who provided a musical background before our lunch and then played samples of different musical styles to illustrate the diverse choices available. You can read more about Dr Donna’s business below.

In addition to the many members and guests who attended the September lunch, we had 6 young ladies from PACE along with 2 PACE staff members. Please remember that you can bring items for the PACE program to any lunch or Cannon Circle. Melissa Rapkin has included a reminder list below of the kind of items that you might bring for PACE.

Also in October we had a great Cannon Circle at Regent Bank on SE 3rd Avenue in downtown Ft Lauderdale hosted by Kim Serra-Rivera. Thank you Kim, everyone who attended greatly enjoyed the evening. Details of that event and the next Cannon Circle are below.

On November 15th we look forward to welcoming our speaker Mayor Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco who is Mayor of Tamarac. We also have a Cannon Circle scheduled on November 9th co-hosted by Deb McLaughlin and Emily Rushin. Also in November our VP Events Pam Dearden has arranged a Happy Hour gathering on November 29th at Tara’s Steakhouse on 17th Street Causeway in Ft Lauderdale. The details and directions are below.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our November events.

Thanks, Vivien

world arts now

dr. donna goldstein creates anew
by Joni Rosenthal

At our October luncheon, our entrepreneur Dr. Donna showcased her new venture, WORLD ARTS NOW.  Always creative in anything that she undertakes, we heard three entertainment options that were done with aplomb.  Laura Sue, an accomplished flutist demonstrated her expertise with several solos to set a variety of moods.  Rico and his smooth jazz and electronic percussion, blended so well with the light and airy ambience of her flute. and  even  a bit of R&B.   These two fine musicians together  created the type of custom  designed ensemble entertainment that Dr. Donna  provides for  all her events.  Please go to Dr. Donna’s new website www.worldartsnow.com to see/hear more of her fabulous presentations

Thanx to our photographer, Joni Rosenthal!

Women's Basketball

On Saturday, October 28th, Emily Rushin, Christy Lambertus, Pam Dearden, Jan Mayer-Rodriguez, her two daughters and Jenny Kelly and her daughter visited the lovely campus of Nova University to watch a scrimmage between the women’s basketball teams of Nova and University of Miami. Unfortunately UM got the dates mixed up and did not attend. We had a great time anyway!
