Lots of people to thank:
first, Ann Meacham, Cynthia Hardy, Marilynn Obrig, Melissa Rapkin and
Rene Harrod for modeling the fashions, hair styles and makeup so beautifully.
I know for some it took a real willingness to “step out of the
box”;
second, Brian Trageser and Alex Bonilla from Red Door Spa for hair and
makeup respectively; and their GENEROUS offer to extend complimentary
makeovers to all WEC members…
The guidelines:
? Present discount card and/or mention WEC when making your appointment
(must make an appointment
? Makeover will include hair color (based on consultation), haircut,
style and makeup
? Offer expires January 31, 2006
? Offer is available Tuesday thru Saturday with participating technicians
and last but certainly not least, Suzanne Whalen (a new member) and
her assistant Kathleen from A Style Is Born, who without we could have
never had the event. Not only did they give of their time, including
consulting with each of the models on their 2 outfits, dress everyone,
calm the jitters and emcee but they are MOST GENEROUSLY offering all
WEC members a 20% discount on anything in the store with and additional
10% of the purchase donated back to WEC.
SHOP AND SPA UNTIL YOU DROP because it’s a WIN WIN WIN!
Members and guests, alike, demonstrated tremendous GENEROSITY with
gifts for Family Central, Woodhouse and PACE.
Thanks for believing in me! Let me hear from you! president@wecftl.com

New Member Profile: Connie Chaney
Connie Chaney moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1984. Working as a paralegal
and raising two beautiful daughters, she entered the self storage business
in 1990 with her ex husband. In 1997, another facility was built at 17th
Street Causeway and Miami Road. I own and manage that facility now. The
storage facility is a state-of-the-art five-story building, fully air-conditioned,
with individual door alarms, smoke evacuation system and all the bells
and whistles. Customers keep coming back and refer other tenants and
feel they are part of the family when they are on the premises.
2005 was a very good year for me. Space Plus Self Storage was voted "Best
of 2005", I received recognition from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber
of Commerce as "Small Business Owner of the Year" and from the Broward
County Council of Chambers as "Small Business Person of the Year".
I received an Interior Design degree from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale
and am now in the Leadership Broward Class XXIV. I had a very rewarding experience
working with the renovation of Childrens Home Society and raising money for
Womens Way and a number of other charities. The friends I have met the last
few years through these organizations has been a very rewarding experience
who challenge you to be all you can be, and have helped me attain the level
of success that I enjoy today.
I am currently working on an office condo project at Hillsboro Boulevard and
I-95 in Deerfield Beach named Deerfield Park Professional Center which will
be completed by the end of 2006. I have built spec homes in North Carolina
and Florida. When someone asks what I do that is a rather hard question to
answer. I find that with work it is important to be able to be creative and
nourish your spirit and grow with different endeavors.
My greatest source of pleasure is spending time with my daughters and family.
My youngest daughter graduated from UF this year (Go Gators!) and is currently
working at Bank United in the Officer Training Program. My other married daughter,
operates her own business as well and is married to the most terrific man and
has made be very happy to be the Grammie of Ashley, age 5 and David, age 2.
My life is filled with people, places, work, and things that touch me everyday
with courage and joy and make me know how blessed I am.
Member Profile: Dr. Suzie
Dr. Suzie is a Board Certified Optometrist, practicing in the South Florida
area since 1997. She has practiced in various clinical settings including
a busy HMO in Miami, as adjunct faculty at Nova Southeastern University
and as an independent optometrist in a corporate optometry setting (For
Eyes, Inc.) It was her desire to have an office that was warm and inviting
as well as, highly functional. She opened the King & EYE, LLC, her
private eye care office and eyewear boutique just over three years ago.
Located in East Fort Lauderdale it gives her the opportunity to live in
the same neighborhood as the majority of her patients. As she puts it, "I
love the idea of being the hometown doctor. I am always available to my
patients 24/7."
Dr. King specializes in solving difficult eyeglass prescription issues especially
for musicians, athletes and "special needs" patients. She fits a full
spectrum of contact lenses. Approximately, 15% percent of her practice now involves
the management of LASER refractive surgery patients. Suzie recently received
the Dennis Kennedy O.D. Excellence in Eye Care Award from TLC Laser Eye Centers.
Her passions are simple: Stephen, the Lighthouse of Broward, and her three Airedale
Terriers. Stephen and Suzie have been "seriously dating" for the past
17 years. She is the current President of the Board, for the Lighthouse of Broward,
which is the only agency providing independent living skills for the visually
impaired and blind of Broward County. She is looking forward to a fun Spring
2006 when she hopes return to the dog show ring with her newest Airedale addition,
Neville. Dr. Suzie is on the board of Leadership Broward and the National Association
of Women Business owners. She is a member of Gold Coast Executive Networking
group.
Dr. Suzie is a native Floridian and a product of 13 years of Catholic school.
She grew up in North Miami Beach back in a time when she could ride her horse
for miles on what was then, Ives Dairy property. She moved to Fort Lauderdale
in the early 80's and has called Coral Ridge home for the past 17 years.

Vivien Godfrey writes:
Thought you might like some information about the private investigator
work that Diane Brucks-McDonald has been doing for me. About a year
ago, my mail man delivered to my home a letter addressed to Sherie
DeGroff. It was a statement from Merrill Lynch for an account in Sherie's
name. The mail man delivered it to me because it also had the words
Bluewater Books & Charts on the letter and my mail man knows that
my husband and I are the owners of Bluewater.
It turned out that Sherie was a former employee of Bluewater who had
left the company before we bought the business and had died shortly
afterwards. I asked several longstanding employees and some did remember
Sherie but did not know of any relatives.
I then called Gayle Metcalf at Merrill Lynch and asked for her help
in having the address on the account changed to our store address.
She was able to do this.
I then asked Diane if she could help us find any relative of Sherie's
who might be entitled to the money in the Merrill Lynch account. At
this time Diane is researching this for us but so far has not found
any person who remembers Sherie and no relative. We will wait and see!

to Norah Weiss, her mother passed away November 28th.

Shanna Munden writes: I will
be traveling to Las Vegas to the Remax International convention to pick
up my Lifetime Achievement Award at
the MGM Grand on Feb 27. My daughter in law, and son with their racing
team received 2 national racing awards. Gina finished in the top 10
in the country as a race car driver in 2 different classes of races.
note from Ronnie: Shana lost her husband on December 20th.
After a heroic operation that saved his life, his pulmonary artery
broke and he bled to death. Let’s continue to show our support.
This is what makes this such a special group of women!

Ginny
Forster writes: Putting Hurricane Season in Perspective
On even years, my husband and I spend Christmas with my family outside
of Boston; odd years are with his family in Florida. This year is a
Florida year, so we headed to Boston pre-Christmas to see my family
on December 2-5. During this brief visit we enjoyed temperatures that
peaked at 21 degrees, wind gusts of 30-40 mph which dropped the windchill
to well below zero, plus snow and ice. We former northerners quickly
forget all this when we are busy living without power for days on end,
standing in line outside Home Depot on a supply run, or scrambling
to get our shutters up in time. This visit clearly brought back to
mind all the reasons to live in Florida - even with our %$#@&*
Hurricane season.

Marilynn
Obrig was mentioned in the Miami Herald regarding the sale of a $16.25
million house. Please click on the link to read the article

Great job Marilyn!

Dorothy Eisenberg was chosen as one of 5 finalists (out of a cast of
thousands) for Excellence in Accounting awarded by South Florida Business
Journal. Congratulations, Dorothy!
Ronnie Karlin writes: So sorry to have to share ... Lee
Sheffield’s
husband has passed away as a result of a heart attach he had earlier
this week. Condolences to Lee and the family.

WEC sets the Pace Center for Girls
The PACE fundraising luncheon was a huge success! Thanks
to Melissa, Dee, Roberta, Lynda, Ginny, Rene, Joyce, Dorothy, Geri, Jan,
Toby, and Edie for attending and showing your support.
Along with our GENEROUS contributions (WEC donated $1000, many of our
members made individual commitments) $78,150 was raised in gifts and
pledges. We will continue to contribute throughout the year! There will
be a box at every luncheon to collect Incentive Store items, see the
list below.
The PACE Mission
"PACE provides girls and young women
an opportunity for a better future through education, counseling,
training and advocacy."
*PACE
Center for Girls Broward is an alternative educational and counseling
program for at-risk girls ages 7– 17. For many of our girls, PACE
is the last hope to avoid a life of conflict, despair and failure and
instead embrace a life filled with achievement, dignity, serenity, and
grace.
Two Fridays a month, the girls at PACE go “shopping” at the Incentive
Store.
For currency they use points earned from completion of class work, good attendance
and participation in special projects. Most of the 80 girls at PACE earn a
trip to the store on Incentive Friday. In addition, girls with the highest
points have their names entered into a special auction. The girls love Incentive
Fridays and always know when there are new items on the shelves.
If you would like to make a contribution
to the Incentive Store, please contact Kathleen Ryan
at 954-561-6939 ext. 317. Some of the girls’ favorite items are listed
