From the President

Our January lunch was very well attended by members and guests including 4 girls from PACE and 2 PACE staff members. We welcomed a panel of speakers from the Memorial West Breast Cancer Center  The members of the panel each spoke and then answered a wide range of questions about breast cancer and other cancers that can affect women. Members of WEC are invited to visit the Memorial West Breast Cancer Center at any time for a tour.

Jenny Kelly hosted an enjoyable Cannon Circle at her business Ritter’s Printing on January 31st. Everyone who attended had a chance to tour the facility with its high tech printing and copying equipment and to see examples of the work that Jenny’s business can do. More on that event below.

We have lots of different events for you to attend in February. On Wednesday the 14th, Valentines Day we will hear a cardiologist from the North Broward Hospital System speak at our monthly lunch about keeping our hearts happy and healthy. The following evening, Evie Hernandez will host the Cannon Circle at her home in Dania. Then the Book Club will meet at the home of Nancy Fischer on Monday 26th when they will talk about The Memory Keeper’s daughter. More information on all these events is given below.

Looking ahead to March we will have our annual membership luncheon on Wednesday March 21st when our speaker will be Ron McGill of the Miami Metro Zoo. All members are strongly encouraged to invite guests on that day who they believe might be interested in joining WEC. There is no charge for your guests on that day.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming activities. Thanks, Vivien

Leigh NickelLeigh Nickel writes:  I won the overall Low Net of the Ladies Senior Championship at Fort Lauderdale Country Club. It was a 2 day event on January 13th and 14th. I shot an 89 on Saturday and an 87 on Sunday. It is the first individual golf tournament I have won. Way to Go Leigh!!!

Geri TrodickGeri Trodick writes: My husband & I went to see Chris & Jim Guld a couple of weeks ago in Wauchula. He wanted to “test drive” his New Corvette and visit with them. We did a kayak paddle down the Peace River.

Emily RushinEmily Rushin is one of a group of artists in the Gore Nursery 2nd Annual Show and Sale happening Saturday and Sunday, March 31 and April 1 from 9 to 4.  It's an inspired venue for the beautiful watercolors to be displayed on easels in the garden or hanging in the greenhouse.  Come see me at Gore, 1611 SW 9th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, and celebrate Spring!

Joyce Shore and Dee MoustakasI would to thank Joyce Shore and her associate Maureen Campola for all their help on my recent condo renovation. They oversaw every teeny detail (and some really BIG ones). The result is nothing short of spectacular. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I could not have done it without you!  ---Dee Moustakas

Kim Serra-RiveraKim Serra-Rivera this month celebrates 10 years with Regent Bank. Not only has Kim been with the bank for these 10 years, but she has remained in the same branch location on South Andrews Avenue in downtown Ft Lauderdale. Kim joined the bank to oversee the construction and development of the branch and has then occupied a number of positions over the past 10 years as the branch has expanded. She is now VP and Area Market Market Manager. Congratulations Kim.
