Jan Bullard: 100+ Club Woman of the Year

It is a privilege for me to announce that Jan Bullard is representing WEC as their “Woman of the Year” for the 1000+ Club for Cancer.  In her honor we are holding a High Tea on February 12th from 1-3 at the stunning Plaza South Clubroom, 4280 Galt Ocean Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL  33308, (Carol Metevier, thank you so much).  Amid the ambiance of scenic delight, we will be engaged in a stately elegance of the High Tea.  Beautiful Hats, gloves and heels have always been a sign of grace and dignity amongst the well–coiffeur.  It’s in that light that we come together to celebrate “Tea Time and Pearls.”

As you know, Ms. Bullard has been an integral part of WEC.  Serving as VP of Membership and bring in the Crème ‘d la Crème of business women, she also served with dedication as our President, and now as our Past President.  As Jan’s liaison, I am humbled to work alongside her and support her in this momentous occasion.

I am honored to be her liaison and feel, as I’m sure you do, that this recognition is extremely well-deserved.  Please join us.

This event is facilitated by the Mad Hatter’s Tea Parties along with Live Music.

The cost of the event is $39.  Please RSVP to Jan Bullard 954-448-4822 or by email to insdollie@aol.com. Or you may contact me, Laurina Anderson at 407-340-0301, as well.

Everyone is invited to this event: spouses, guests, and friends.

p.s. Ladies don’t forget your hats and gloves…it is truly a time to shine as only you can!

FROM THE PRESIDENT

wec

Our ladies have been very busy. We have had some fabulous guest speakers like Yael Yardeni. Not only was her topic on healing fascinating, the delivery of her speech was amazing. Dr. Karen Rowe and Michelle Case-Anderson had our October Canon Circle at the Lauderdale Yacht Club. What a wonderful night of networking and bonding. One of my favorite things is coming up, the Catamaran Cruise scheduled for December 7th. You will want to reserve your place early for this one.

November is the month we celebrate Thanksgiving. This is a time for thanks and gratitude. We have 6 new members. WEC is overflowing with incredible women that are incredible and do amazing things. The feeling of love, caring, gratitude, compassion etc., fills the room and you can’t help but feel these emotions. You instantly know that we are different. Our ladies stand by one another, care for each other and would never, ever think of hurting a fellow sister. We laugh together, eat together, play together and inspire each other to be the best we can possibly be. Yes, at times we even pray together. I want to thank each and every one of you for being the phenomenal ladies that you are.

November is also the month that we give back to the community. We have an optional event where you can bring canned goods or donate money or gift cards to the Cooperative Feeding Program, now known as “LifeNet4Families”. In the month of September alone, they provided l02,000 meals. They go through l0,000 pounds of food a day; a staggering amount of food!. Last year our ladies took a tour of the facility. The only thing I can say about that is that it is a life-changing event.

On behalf of the WEC Board and myself, we all wish you a Happy Thanksgiving… we can’t wait to see you again soon!

Book: Cutting For Stone by Abraham Verghese

From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. Lauded for his sensitive memoir (My Own Country) about his time as a doctor in eastern Tennessee at the onset of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s, Verghese turns his formidable talents to fiction, mining his own life and experiences in a magnificent, sweeping novel that moves from India to Ethiopia to an inner-city hospital in New York City over decades and generations. Sister Mary Joseph Praise, a devout young nun, leaves the south Indian state of Kerala in 1947 for a missionary post in Yemen. During the arduous sea voyage, she saves the life of an English doctor bound for Ethiopia, Thomas Stone, who becomes a key player in her destiny when they meet up again at Missing Hospital in Addis Ababa. Seven years later, Sister Praise dies birthing twin boys: Shiva and Marion, the latter narrating his own and his brothers long, dramatic, biblical story set against the backdrop of political turmoil in Ethiopia, the life of the hospital compound in which they grow up and the love story of their adopted parents, both doctors at Missing. The boys become doctors as well and Vergheses weaving of the practice of medicine into the narrative is fascinating even as the story bobs and weaves with the power and coincidences of the best 19th-century novel. Our Blogging Class

image

On Saturday morning at Chadia’s business meeting room, we had 9 WEC members who came to learn how to Blog.  Chris Guld, and her husband Jim were there to teach the class.  Lenore Alpert and Lyn Sheft created brand new blogs during the class.  Emily Rushin, Joyce Shore, Chadia Meroueh and Jenette Mathai learned a little more about their existing blogs.  Lynda Amorello, Carol Metevier and Liz Mendel got ideas!

Chris enjoyed having the opportunity to teach this class because it is one of her ‘Geeks on Tour’ new offerings.  You can download a copy of the class handout if you’re interested in learning about blogging with WordPress.

Computer Blogging Class

We’ve scheduled a class for any WEC member who wants to learn how easy it is to Blog!

  • Saturday, February 20, 2010
  • 10am to noon
  • At Chadia’s business – Auto Tech and Body
  • 429 N. Dixie Highway
    Pompano Beach, , Fl 33060
    Phone: 954-946-9730

The class will be taught by Chris Guld, your webmaster, and will include instruction for WEC bloggers to post entries on the WEC website.  We will also cover how you can set up your own website/blog for free using www.WordPress.com and Live Writer.  Bring your laptop computer, and power cable.  We should have Wi-Fi Internet available, but if you have a cellular data card, bring that too.. If you don’t have a laptop, not to worry, you will still learn plenty by watching Chris and maybe sitting with someone else who brings a laptop.
