DORA VILK-SHAPIRO: MAKING STRIDES TO FIGHT CANCER AND PROMOTE DENTISTRY TO WOMEN

WEC profile 1

Our office, The Tamarac Dentist, has raised over $7,000 for the Tamarac Relay For Life, a fundraiser of the American Cancer Society.  We did it via a garage sale, held a Doo Wop Concert with professional groups, even a Frankie Valle impersonator, and a silent auction.  We sold stars, moons, and feet in our office, and donated $25 out of each Vizilite oral cancer screening exam to the cause.  At the actual event we did nut sales, brownie sales, chair massages, soda sales, and a Racing Rubber Ducky game with prizes for the kids.  We also had a Chinese raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.  This year I was the captain of our team: The Smile Makers.

On March 10, 2011, I became the Founding President of the American Association of Women Dentists, South Florida Chapter.  Our corporate sponsor was Henry Schein and we had a wonderful speaker on Ergonomics in the Dental and business office.  We just had the right number of women dentists to join, vote on our Founding Board and vote on our Chapter Constitution.

DRIVE OUT CANCER WITH Dora Vilk-Shapiro

WEC profile 1

Hi!

This year I am the team captain for The Tamarac Dentists, The Smile Makers, Relay For Life -Tamarac fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.

The economy has affected everyone, and this year more than ever, I need your help.  Cancer doesn’t care if the economy is good or bad, and we must still give as best we can.

Even $5, $10, or $15 adds up when everyone pitches in.  Of course if you are one of the one’s blessed with a decent job, and good health, give as generously as you can.

In memory of my father, grandfather, father-in-law, and many friends lost this year and in year’s past, In honor of my brother-in-law who is fighting now, please help me in my fundraising efforts.

Thank you so much in advance for giving this year.

May you and yours be blessed , and never need to hear the "C" word.

Drive Out Cancer to celebrate more birthdays!

Dora Vilk-Shapiro, DMD, FAGD

P.S. FROM DORA: I am also in the process of starting a local chapter for the American Association of Women Dentists.  Currently there isn’t a chapter in the whole state of Florida!  I look forward to being the Founding President of the AAWD-South Florida Chapter.

I went on the Celebrity Solstice 4/18-25 sailing to San Juan, PR, St. Thomas and St. Martin.  Did the Aquaclass package which was amazing.   Cirque de Soleil type entertainment, Excellent spa facilities and service.  Aquaclass has a special healthy eating restaurant that was super gourmet and delicious.

Also in April, The Tamarac Dentist, participated in the Relay For Life, Tamarac raising money for the American Cancer Society.  I lit Luminaries from WEC in memory of our past President and dear friend, Ronnie Karlin.   Here is a photo of the luminary:

The Smile Makers raised over 5,000 dollars. Final counts are still not in.  Thank you to those who supported me in my efforts.  I lost my dad to brain cancer this year so it was particularly moving for me.

I was busy speaking in April as well.  Spoke to the Tamarac Kiwanis club on Dental Health.  Spoke to the Tamarac Women of Success group on Creating and implementing a Vision Board.  Also spoke to the girls at the Brookwood home for Foster girls in Coral Springs on Dental Health and on careers in Dentistry.
