As you all know, I didn’t win the Panda kitchen makeover contest. I came in second, losing by only 89 votes!
However, I absolutely consider myself a winner –– because of you. Your dedication to voting every day (and corralling family and friends to do the same) as well as your enthusiasm and certainty that I would win were both humbling and inspiring! What a powerful force WEC is. Hollywood’s “Band of Brothers” has nothing on our Circle of Sisters!
Suzie King, who was the instigator (cheerleader and perennial pest) behind the whole thing, said if I didn’t win, there would be a plan B. Well, when Suzie speaks, the universe listens. From the seeds she –– and all of you –– planted grew a solution: My friend, Barbara, and her sister, Marty, have each decided to gift me the maximum amount allowed by the IRS in 2010 and again in 2011.
When their mother learned I was cooking in a toaster oven, she said, “Count me in for a cook top and oven.” Joyce Shore, with whom I have been working for years, has volunteered her design services, and another friend in Miami, who’s construction company is the largest purchaser of GE appliances in Florida, is going to order my appliances at cost. And many of you have volunteered along with your husbands and friends to help –– especially when the demolition starts.
In my opinion, the most satisfying and noble thing we can do during our lives is to make a difference in someone else’s life. Having an accessible kitchen will definitely make a difference in my life.
I am overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity! And all I have to say to Suzie King is, “This is all your fault. I love you for recognizing my challenge and setting out to find a solution that will make my life easier. I am blessed to have you –– and everyone in WEC –– as my friend!”
